the race is just perfect. Amazing scenery with Mt Rainier as the backdrop (as seen in the first picture). The trails were great and well marked. Aid stations were amazing with great people running them and fantastic food at them, nothing was missing. Organization was wonderful. All in all, a great race which left nothing to be desired, I would definitely recomend the race.
In terms of my race; again I struggled with motivation and didn't have the mental umph to push through the pain to dig down for a great race day performance. but maybe I also didn't really ahve ths physical strength as the week prior had 16 hours of exercise in it, as I gave in to the urge of bagging every summit in town. But, I had a nice day out on the trails, ran my fastest 50 mile race in what may be the toughest conditions. I can tell I'm improving athletically when I run faster races, even though I feel pieces are still missing, so that's nice.
At the end of this race I found myself again faced with the question of 'why' to which I spent a fair bit of time thinking about in the following weeks. Why run? What types of races? How do I even want races to fit into my running? I had a nice nine and a half hours to think during this race, I answered no questions, but I better elucidated the questions I wanted to figure out answers to.
