The park that I run in for the majority of my weekday runs has a highway overpass (bridge I guess actually) running over the ravine / creek that is the focal point of the park. Like most bridge type structures it has a cement base holding up the pillars that the road is on above it. Usually there is a few urban art designs on the pillars. I like them, they aren't classic art, but they aren't distasteful at all either. When I say 'urban art' I don't mean weak ass monotone coloured tagging style graffiti; but rather pictures, scenes, concepts painted on public mediums usually using paint. The good ones have nice shading and depth of character. And I kind of enjoy the style of whoever has been arting up the pillars in my park.
Except today I ran by and noticed that some poor soul (probably a city employee) who has a narrow range of what counts as art decided to paint over everything with a boring drab grey paint.
Luckily there was already two young guys with a few bags of spray paint cans getting some new art done. I made sure to give them a high five and thanked them before continuing on with my run.
i'm trying to find a way to just click "like" here, but google says I don't own my identity, and well whatever. this is christina.
ReplyDeletesometimes I feel so conflicted; I shift from moments of science to moments of 'hippie' so easily.
