Runing at night

Daytime temperatures have been around 30-35 degrees lately; and with starting work at 3 pm every day I find it so much easier to run after work. So I`ve been doing some midnight runs after work. It is pure heaven! No more than 20 degrees, perfectly clear skies, so little traffic that on the side streets I could run in the middle of the road to avoid camber if I wanted to. When I'm running at night I feel like I'm a step away from heaven.

I get some odd looks though. Guys between the age of 16-25 seem to enjoy hanging out of their car windows to scream at me; little do they realize that while they drive by I can`t understand a word they say nor do I care what they have to say.

I seem to have scheduled myself into a busy September. On the 5th I`m running in a 54 km trail race in Kamloops, the 12th I`m running in a 10 km road race in Penticton, and then on the 19th I`m going to volunteer at the Peak to Beak in Kelowna. Should be fun.

I`m not really sure how I plan on approaching the race in kamloops. I`m not taking much time in front of it so I might not be well rested. I`l l probably still do a long runs the next two weekends and do a tiny bit of a taper. I`m running the race with a family friend. He`s older than I am but has been running much longer and has a much faster marathon time than I do. And yet he is telling me that he`s worried about keeping up with me for the distance; I feel the completely other way around that I`m worried about trying to keep up with him.

The 10 km run the week after will be my first 10 k race I`ve participated in since May of 2009. I will set a new personal best in that; two days ago I ran 10 km whicih included a steep 2 km uphill section and a 3 minute rest in 49 minutes so I`m pretty sure I`ll beat my best of 56 minutes.

Should be fun,

Keep on running.

  2. Thanks! I don't think the 54 k will be as good as it could though, working the day before it unfortunately.
