I train, running on a regular basis, pushing myself as hard as I can whenever I can. I keep myself mindful of my body as much as I can. Why do I do this? I do this all so that I may keep myself in good enough shape so that on a few occasions throughout the year when time and planning permits I am capable of pushing myself so hard that my body will instictually keep going, and I will mentally transcend to a place that I think is beyond physical where I may attain a higher level of Zen.
Not sure if that makes sense. But it works for me.
It's why I run, for today at least.
