After the WITP in kamloops (54 km) I had to go straight to Penticton for some visiting. Spent three days, it was stressful. I came home and did a run on the 6th, which was slow and excessively painful with massive tightness in my calves. The next day I woke up with a horrible head cold which is just now starting to go away.
What a surprise, beaten up body that hasn't been allowed to recover, plus mental stress, leads to getting sick. This seems like a good time for a rest. My leg muscles still aren't healed from fat dog, they're getting better but there is still tightness behind my knees.
I was planning on doing this later in the year, and maybe not as long as I will, but I intend on not running again for the rest of september. I will bike still, probably not very many long rides though. Also, I will use this downtime to start a weights routine as well. I've been inspired to start the 100 pushup challenge, which is simply a matter of giving yourself a hundred days to be able to do 100 pushups in a row. Between that, and adding other simple freeweights I have at home should be a good start to build a habit. I want to add more depth to my athleticism, and the winter seems to be a good time to get that done.
